INDIANAPOLIS, IN – High winds cause a stage to collapse at the Indiana State fair which left five people dead and forty people injured. The crowd was in the process of being evacuated from the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand into the Pepsi Coliseum nearby when a storm struck and brought down the stage rigging. Crowds were waiting to see the country duo Sugarland perform.
“We are all right,” Sugarland Tweeted on Saturday night in response. “We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you’ll join us. They need your strength.”
Opening act Sara Bareilles performed her set before the bad weather struck. She also expressed her condolences via Twitter, writing, “I’m speechless and feel so helpless. Please send love and prayers to Indianapolis tonight. My heart aches for the lives lost.” (People)
