The New York Jets’ defense will be without another key starter to begin the upcoming season, as outside linebacker Calvin Pace has already been ruled out of the team’s opener on September 13th against Baltimore with a broken right foot & could be sidelined for up to 6 weeks.

The injury occured during Friday evening’s pre-season loss to Washington, as Pace was injured during the starters’ final series in the 3rd quarter.

Pace led the team last season with 8 sacks despite missing the first four games due to suspension, as he added:

“Hopefully, it’ll be a somewhat speedy recovery. I probably definitely will miss the first game, that’s safe to say, but beyond that, I don’t really have an idea. “I’m still upbeat, I really am. Stuff happens in football. I’ll say this: It’s better to get injured playing rather than have to sit out four games because of a silly mistake as far as a supplement. It happens and I’m going to stay upbeat and cheer the guys on.”

The Jets are already exploring the idea of signing free-agent linebacker Adalius Thomas, who spent time with head coach Rex Ryan when he was the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens.
