The Washington Nationals will be without their phenom ace Stephen Strasburg for all of the 2011 season, as he’s expected to miss the next 12-to-18 months due to Tommy John surgery.
The injury ends an impressive rookie campaign, as Strasburg finished 5-3 in 12 starts for the Nationals with a 2.91 ERA, as he struck out 92 batters & walked only 17.
There have been some pitchers in recent history that have undergone Tommy John surgery & bounced back to perform well, which includes the Yankees’ A.J. Burnett & Kerry Wood, the Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter, the Cubs’ Ryan Dempster, Florida’s Josh Johnson, Minnesota’s Francisco Liriano & Carl Pavano, Atlanta’s Billy Wagner, San Francisco’s Brian Wilson & retired pitcher John Smoltz.
