Not even a historic home run could help the St. Louis Cardinals keep pace in the NL Central.
Albert Pujols became the 3rd youngest player in MLB history to reach 400 career homers after his 4th inning solo shot off Washington Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, but the Cardinals wound up losing 11-10 in 13 innings & now face a 4-game deficit to the 1st place Reds.
Pujols also needs 15 home runs in his final 38 games to tie a career-high of 49 that he hit in 2006, which was the season that St. Louis won the World Series.
He’s been red hot since the All-Star Break (.347 average) & has hit a sizzling .419 with 10 home runs & 21 runs batted in so far in August.
