The Florida Marlins will have to spend the rest of their season without their starting catcher, as Ronny Paulino was suspended for 50 games due to violating MLB’s positive drug test.
Paulino issued a statement, as he claims that he used the pills to control his 6’3, 250 pound frame:
“To control my weight this season, I used a dietary pill. I recently learned that the dietary pill contained a substance banned under Major League Baseball’s drug policy. I am ashamed and saddened for disappointing and distracting my family, my teammates, the entire Florida Marlins organization and baseball fans.”
Paulino appeared in 91 games this season for Florida while batting .259 with 4 home runs & 37 runs batted in.
He’s also the 2nd major leaguer to be suspended for a positive drug test in 2010, as Cincinnati’s Edinson Volquez already served a 50-game ban earlier this season.
