Eli Manning suffers huge gash to head during Giants’ preseason win…

A big hit to Eli Manning overshadowed the Giants’ Stadium opener, as New York Jets’ linebacker Calvin Pace leveled the one-time Super Bowl champion winning quarterback during Monday evening’s pre-season game.

Manning apparently changed plays without informing his coaching staff, so a designed handoff to Brandon Jacobs quickly went downhill as Pace’s hit jarred the former Ole Miss star’s helmet loose, as a 3-inch gash on his forehead appeared.

Backup quarterback Jim Sorgi, who joins younger brother Eli this season in New York after backing up older brother Peyton in Indianapolis for 6 seasons said that he expects the Giants’ signal-caller to make a quick recovery:

“It’s just one of those things that his helmet came off, and when your helmet comes off, the play is supposed to stop. It didn’t stop fast enough, and he caught another helmet in the head. Those things happen. It’s just part of the game, and he’ll bounce back and he’ll be ready to go whenever he can.”

Manning needed 12 stitches to close the wound up & is unsure if he’ll play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
