On the eve before their preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, the San Diego Chargers have retained a key member of their team.
3-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman has signed a 1 year tender offer that will be worth $3.3 million, as he will be on the free agent market once again next winter after holding out in hopes of a new long-term deal.
He hopes to re-discover the form that quickly made him one of the NFL’s top players, as he terrorized the league with 39.5 sacks in his first 3 seasons, which includes a career-high 17 during the 2006-07.
