Trailing 9-3 in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Atlanta Braves put together an incredible rally to stun the Cincinnati Reds 10-9 on Thursday afternoon from Turner Field.
Reds reliever Mike Lincoln allowed four straight singles to start the inning, as two runs scored to make it a 9-5 game.
Nick Masset then walked David Ross before Miguel Cairo made a big error that forced in Yuniel Escobar from 3rd base, which got the Braves within 3 runs.
Jason Heyward then struck out, as Dusty Baker called upon his closer Francisco Cordero to try & retire lifetime .200 hitter Brooks Conrad.
Conrad delivered the biggest hit of his major-league career, as he belted a deep drive to left that just got past the glove of Lanyce Nix for a walk-off grand slam, as it gave Atlanta an absolutely thrilling 10-9 victory.
According to Conrad, he thought that Nix had robbed him to end the game:
“I hit it and I was kind of talking to it to get out of there and I saw (Nix) jump up. From my angle … it looked like he kind of brought it back. I put my hands no my helmet and said, ‘No way he caught that.”’
It’s the biggest comeback in MLB history since the Cleveland Indians rallied from a 10-2 fourth inning deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 11-10 on May 25th, 2009.
