Oakland’s Dallas Braden throws perfect game!

Written by on May 9, 2010

Dallas Braden became the first Oakland Athletics pitcher in 42 years to toss a perfect game on Sunday, as he was able to stun the majors’ best team in Tampa Bay.

Jason Bartlett nearly ended the bid in the 1st, but Kevin Kouzmanoff made a nice play at 3rd to snag the liner.

After the game, Braden had an emotional moment with his grandmother Peggy Lindsey, who helped raised the 24-year old southpaw after he lost his mother Jodie Atwood to skin cancer in high school.

He also sounded as if he didn’t want fans to remember him just by today’s historic performance:

“Pretty cool. I don’t know what to think about it just yet. There’s definitely a select group. I’d like to have a career more than today.”“

It’s the first perfect game thrown since Chicago White Sox lefthander Mark Buehrle did it also against Tampa Bay on July 23rd, 2009.

Prior to today, Jim “Catfish” Hunter was the last A’s pitcher to toss a perfect game on May 8, 1968 against the Minnesota Twins.
