Bud Norris provided possibly the best start of his brief major-league career while helping his team to a much-needed win.
Norris allowed just 1 run over 5 innings & struck out a career-high 9 batters as the Houston Astros notched their 1st win of the 2010 season with a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday afternoon from Busch Stadium.
Shortstop Jeff Keppinger was responsible for 3 of those 5 runs, as he hit a 3rd inning RBI double & a 2-run single in the 8th to help support a strong outing from Norris.
Norris has won all three starts against St. Louis in his career & has allowed just one run over his last 18 innings of work against them.
Houston also avoided getting swept in their 3rd straight series, which hasn’t happened since September 13-22 of 1996.
The Astros will travel to Chicago for a weekend series with the Cubs while the Cardinals will stay home to host the New York Mets.
