The Chicago Bears as well as the rest of the National Football League are suffering an absolute tragedy today, as 26-year old defensive end Gaines Adams was found dead Sunday morning after an apparent heart attack.
Adams was drafted with the 4th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2007 NFL Draft, then was traded to Chicago last October.
He did show promise in each of his first two seasons with 6.0 & 6.5 sacks respectively, and ironically his only career defensive touchdown came at Soldier Field, as he returned a Kyle Orton interception 45 yards for a touchdown during the Buccaneers’ 27-24 win.
The Bears released the following statement earlier today:
“We are stunned and saddened by the news of Gaines’ passing. Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
