Bulls select Derrick Rose with the 1st overall pick of the ’08 NBA Draft!

The Chicago Bulls made Derrick Rose’s dream come true on Thursday evening, as they selected the standout point guard from the University of Memphis with the #1 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.
Rose has some big shoes to fill, as he is just the 3rd guard over the past 29 years to be selected with the 1st overall pick in the draft.
Â
The other two? Allen Iverson & Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
Â
The Bulls now have to deal with an overcrowded backcourt that includes Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes, Chris Duhon & Thabo Sefolosha.
Hinrich will probably be the odd man out since Rose will demand time at point guard combined with Hinrich set to make $10 million for the 2008-09 season.
Hinrich averaged a career-low 11.5 PPG for the Bulls in 75 games last season.
I think the Bulls need to put together a package to get themselves a serviceable center.
Â
Joakim Noah has shown flashes of greatness during his rookie season, but the Bulls need a more consistent scoring option to contend with the likes of Kevin Garnett & Dwight Howard in the East.
Let’s not forget about Toronto’s new twosome of Chris Bosh & newly acquired Jermaine O’Neal.
Â
Derrick Rose should be one of the NBA’s premier young point guards by 2011 if he follows the path of Deron Williams & Chris Paul, who both saw increases in points per game, assists per game & field goal % in each of their 3 NBA seasons.
Until then,
