Even though he’s going in as an Montreal Expo, Chicago Cubs fans worldwide should be proud of today’s induction, as 21-year major league veteran Andre “The Hawk” Dawson was elected into baseball’s Hall of Fame.
Dawson spent the first 11 years of his career with the Expos & won the 1977 National League Rookie of the Year award after batting .282 in 139 games while hitting 19 home runs, driving in 65 runs & stole 21 bases.
The Hawk’s best season came in 1987 for a last-place Cubs team, as he established career highs in home runs (49) and runs batted in (137) while winning the National League’s Most Valuable Player award.
Andre spent 6 years in Chicago before splitting the final 4 years of his career with the Florida Marlins & Boston Red Sox.
Dawson is only one of three men to ever hit more than 400 homers & steal over 300 bases, as he joins Willie Mays & Barry Bonds in this exclusive category.
He also made 8 All-Star appearences & won 8 Gold Glove awards.
