In the final game of a storied 57-year career, Florida State made sure to send their legendary coach out as a winner.
The Seminoles used a strong game from running back Jermaine Thomas (121 rushing yards & 2 touchdowns) to knock off #18 West Virginia 33-21 at the Gator Bowl, as the team lifted Bobby Bowden onto their shoulders as they left the field.
Jimbo Fisher will take over as head coach & already has high expectations to fulfill, as Bowden led the team to 33 consecutive winning seasons, which included two National Championship wins over Nebraska in 1993 & Virginia Tech in 1999.
The 80-year old Bowden sounded like a man who’s ready for retirement afterwards, as he said:
“The winning was really a bonus. Knowing it’s your last game, I’ll be honest with you, I’m kind of interested in this retirement business. I ain’t got to set my alarm no more, I’ll get up when I’m darn good and ready, then like I say, go out and look for a job.”
