The Chicago White Sox added some veteran leadership to their roster on Monday, as they signed shortstop Omar Vizquel to a 1-year deal that will be worth nearly $1.4 million.
The 21-year pro has been around for so long that he’s only 3 years apart (Vizquel is 42) from manager Ozzie Guillen, who will turn 46 in January.
Vizquel has never been a guy who was blessed with great power (14 homers/72 RBI’s with Cleveland in ’02 were both career-highs), but is an excellent defensive player & has only made 2 errors in his last 154 games.
The Caracas, Venezuela native has 57 career games of postseason experience & has appeared in 2 World Series as a member of the Cleveland Indians (lost in 1995 & 1997).
