Mattie T’s ALDS Recap: Los Angeles Angels vs. Boston Red Sox

Game 1:
The Angels got 7 1/3 shutout innings from John Lackey & an early 3-run homer by Torii Hunter to key their 5-0 win over the Red Sox.
Victor Martinez, David Ortiz & Kevin Youkilis combined to go 0-for-11 in the heart of Boston’s lineup.
Game 2:
Erick Aybar broke open a close game with a big 2-run triple in the 7th inning, which was enough to lift Los Angeles to a 4-1 win over Boston.
Jacoby Ellsbury was the only Red Sox player with a multi-hit game, as the centerfielder went 2-for-4 & scored 1 run.
Jered Weaver gave the Angels 7 1/3 strong innings, as he allowed just 1 run on 2 hits while walking two & striking out seven.
Game 3:
With the Red Sox just one strike away from forcing Game 4, Vladimir Guerrero delivered a game-winning 2-run single to give the Angels a stunning 7-6 win over Boston at Fenway Park.
Jonathan Papelbon recorded the first two outs before giving up a 2-out single to Erick Aybar.
Chone Figgins then walked before Bobby Abreu hit an RBI double to set up Guerrero’s heroics.
Boston was retired in order by Brian Fuentes to end a stunning loss & their 2009 season.
Congratulations to Mike Scioscia’s Los Angeles Angeles, who will advance to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2005.
As for Terry Francona’s Boston Red Sox, their suffer their first American League Divisional Series sweep since 2005. (Swept in 3 games by the Chicago White Sox)
