Chicago Suntimes Talking About Auto-Tune
Written by DJ Special Blend from Chicago on December 27, 2008
Yep, they broke it down concerning the how the “Hip-Hip slash R&B” world has been apparently taken over by this special effect, and the charge is being lead by T-Pain.
Oh, how I went outta my way to hate on T-Pain, and I still hate when I get the chance.
However, I cain’t front on how the industry has followed suit.
Many of today’s Hip-Hop artist from the hood turned pop-rock-stars have embraced the voice synthesizing, including Lil Wayne who has eight Grammy nominations (the most by any “rapper” in history). Chicago’s own R. Kelly and Kanye West have also used the Auto-Tune effect. Diddy has jumped on the voice over-processing as well.
By the way… we all know that Kanye West is an outstanding producer of popular music. He’s so good that he fooled himself into really believing that he could sing. The world saw the fiasco on Saturday Night Live, but it’s funny that nobody warned him after he did the same thing a week earlier on BET’s 106 & Park.
What a clown.
Meanwhile, I don’t have enough energy to continue to hate on the apparent Auto-Tune time that we are in in popular music. Music has had many phases since before we all were born.
This one, like all others, will pass.

I hope it passes, and fast! IMO, only Roger could rock the Auto Tune with talent and dignity. Maybe it would have helped Kanye, though.
