The Chicago White Sox bolstered their starting rotation on Friday with a last-second deal for 2-time All Star & 2007 Cy Young award winner Jake Peavy from the San Diego Padres.
Peavy rejected a deal to the White Sox on May 21st, but this time around he had a change of heart. In exchange, the Padres will receive pitchers Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dexter Carter & Adam Russell.
The 28-year old righthander from Mobile, AL is currently on the DL with a severe ankle injury, which was suffered on May 22nd during his win over the Chicago Cubs.
August seems to be Peavy’s best month, as he has career-highs in games started (41), wins (21), innings pitched (265.2), strikeouts (285), ERA (2.61) & batting average against (.206).
Chicago will take on the remainder of Peavy’s contract, as he will earn $11 million this season, $15 million in 2010, $16 million in 2011 & $17 million in 2012 with a $22 million club option for 2013, which includes a $4 million buyout.
D.J. Carrasco started tonight’s game against the New York Yankees & could remain in the rotation until Peavy is ready to make his White Sox debut in late August.
