Blackhawks “extinguish” Flames in Game 6, move on to 2nd round…
Written by The Go-To-Man Mattie T. on April 28, 2009
Congratulations to Joel Quenneville & the Chicago Blackhawks, who defeated the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Monday to close out their 1st-round series in six games & will now advance to the 2nd round for the first time since 1996!
The Hawks will now move on to face the #3 seeded Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Vancouver will attempt to reach their first Western Conference Finals appearance since 1994, when they beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in 5 games before falling to the New York Rangers in the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals that went to a 7th & deciding game.
Meanwhile, the Blackhawks will attempt to reach the Conference Finals for the first time since 1995, when Darryl Sutter was the team’s head coach.
Ironically, Sutter is now the general manager of the Calgary Flames.
The Blackhawks & Canucks split their regular-season series with 2 wins apiece.
