Houston’s Dikembe Mutombo calls it a career…

After leaving on a stretcher during Houston’s Game 2 loss on Tuesday night against Portland, 18-year NBA veteran center Dikembe Mutombo says that his playing days are over.
Mutombo will retire as one of the NBA’s all-time greatest shot-blockers, as his 3,289 career blocks ranks 2nd only behind Hakeem Olajuwon.
With Mutombo’s retirement, Phoenix Suns’ center Shaquille O’Neal now becomes the active leader with 2,628 blocked shots.
Mutombo finishes his career as an 8-time All-Star (1992, 1995-98 & 2000-02), & a 4-time NBA Defensive Year of the Year winner (1995, 1997-98 & 2001).
In March of 2007, Mutombo also became the oldest player in league history to collect over 20 rebounds in a game when he snagged down 22 boards against the Denver Nuggets.
Mutombo will also be known for spearing one of the NBA’s biggest playoff upsets, as his #8 seeded Denver Nuggets stunned the top-seeded Seattle Supersonics in 5 games during the 1st round of the 1994 NBA Playoffs.
