Derrick Rose named 2008-09 NBA Rookie of the Year!

Written by on April 22, 2009

Looks like John Paxson really knew what he was doing at last June’s NBA Draft.

Paxson’s decision to select Derrick Rose with the 1st overall pick finally paid off today, as Rose was named as the NBA’s 2008-2009 Rookie of the Year.

As evidenced by his April numbers, Derrick Rose got better as his rookie season got deeper.

In 6 games, Rose averaged 19.2 points per game with 7.5 assists per game & shot 53% from the field, which were all season-highs.

Derrick Rose is the first point guard to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award since Chris Paul did it in 2005-06 & the first Bull to win Rookie of the Year since Elton Brand shared it in 1999-2000 alongside Steve Francis.
