CHICAGO, IL – A 2 year old boy was hit by a car and killed on 72nd and Sacramento yesterday afternoon.
The boy was in an alley in the 7200 block of South Sacramento Avenue when he was struck about 4:45 p.m., according to Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
The victim, Adrian Carranza, 2, of an unspecified address on South Richmond Street, was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
These type of tragedies are very difficult for families to deal with… and that goes without saying.
Family and friends standing outside the child’s home Saturday night declined to comment. Crying and wailing could be heard from inside the house and small children played outside.
I would imagine that it has to also be hard for the driver to deal with as well.
The motorist — Stephanie Sherman-Ratliff, 40, of the 7200 block of South Richmond Street — was cited tonight with one count of failure to exercise due caution with a pedestrian in the roadway.
An unfortunate accident where nobody wins.
