Angels’ pitcher Nick Adenhart killed in car accident.

Just hours after making his 4th professional major league start, 22-year old Nick Adenhart of the Los Angeles Angels was killed by a drunk driver early Thursday morning in Fullerton, CA.

Adenhart was a passenger in a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was struck by a drunk driver who ran a red light at approx. 12:30 AM.

The drunk driver of the vehicle (22-year old Andrew Thomas Gallo of Riverside, CA) that killed Adenhart tried to flee the scene on foot, but was captured 30 minutes later.

Before this tragic & saddening incident occured, Adenhart got a chance to pitch in the Angels’ rotation due to Kelvim Escobar, Ervin Santana & John Lackey being shelved on the 15-day DL with injuries.

Adenhart’s only career win to date was on May 12th, 2008 against the Chicago White Sox after giving up 4 runs & 9 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched during Anaheim’s 10-7 win.

Nick Adenhart’s final major league appearence came on April 8th, 2009 against the Oakland Athletics after pitching 6 scoreless innings & allowed 7 hits while walking three & striking out five.

The Angels cancelled tonight’s scheduled game against Oakland in the wake of Adenhart’s death.
