CHICAGO – Chicago police shot and killed an armed man in the West Englewood neighborhood this evening, authorities said.
A police-involved shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. outdoors in the 6300 block of South Hermitage Avenue, said Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne.
The 20-year-old man was shot twice, in the head and leg, said Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Will Knight. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Knight said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but had no identification on the victim as of 7:15 p.m.
Earlier, a police spokesman said that officers were approached by an armed man and shot him. A gun was recovered from the scene, and the incident is under investigation, Payne said.
