3 teams with plenty of controversial moments & surprising exits. Will a fourth team take a chance on the flamboyant wide receiver?
That remains to be seen after the Dallas Cowboys cut ties with the 35-year old Terrell Owens on Wednesday evening, which ends his 3 year tenure in Dallas.
Even though Owens went over the 1,000 yard receiving mark for each of the last 3 seasons, he caught just 69 receptions, averaged 65.8 yards per game, averaged 4.2 yards per catch & totaled 38 first downs in 2008.
That’s his worst season statisically since 1999, when he caught just 60 receptions for 754 yards & 4 receiving touchdowns (Owens caught 14 TD’s in ’98) for the San Francisco 49ers.
Owens also had just two games where he eclipsed the 100-yard mark receiving last season, which is the lowest total for him since 1999.
Right before Owens had the 2nd best game of his career with a 213 yard effort, 7 catch effort against the 49ers on November 23rd of last year, he told NFL Network’s Deion Sanders that “It’s not that I can’t play, it’s the system in which I’m in.”
Dallas has decided to go with a younger look, as 26-year old tight end Jason Witten along with 27-year old wide receiver Roy Williams & 29-year old Patrick Crayton all figure to play bigger roles next season in the Cowboys’ offense along with 25-year old running back Marion Barber.
