Brett Favre decides to retire….AGAIN.

Written by on February 11, 2009

Maybe this time, he really means it.

For the 2nd time in the past 11 months, Brett Favre announced his retirement from the NFL, which ends a failed 1-year stint with the New York Jets.

Favre’s retirement now leaves the Jets in a serious bind at quarterback. Kellen Clemens (256 pass attempts in 3 seasons) & Brett Ratliff (has not thrown a career NFL pass) are the team’s only two active quarterbacks, which means that the team will most likely have to either use April’s NFL Draft or the Free Agency period (which begins on a certain sports writer’s birthday..Feb 27th!) to sign a veteran.

Some of the immediate players that the Jets most certainly will be in contact with include Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins, Jeff Garcia, David Garrard, Byron Leftwich & even Rex Grossman.

From 1992-2004, Favre averaged 240.2 passing yards per game, 29 touchdowns & 17 interceptions per season.

But from 2005-2008, Favre averaged 240.5 passing yards per game, 22 touchdowns & 21 interceptions per season.

With Favre’s retirement, his NFL record of 269 consecutive starts will come to an end. Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning is 2nd with 176  consecutive starts & could surpass Favre by 2015.

Favre ends his 18-year career as the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes (464), passing yardage (65, 127), pass completions (5,720), pass attempts (9,280) and also interceptions (310).

Miami Dolphins cornerback Andre Goodman will forever go down in history as intercepting Brett Favre’s last NFL pass thrown on December 28th, 2008.
