(Part 2) Alex Rodriguez, steroid user?
Written by The Go-To-Man Mattie T. on February 9, 2009
Folks, it’s official.
New York Yankees’ 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez admitted to ESPN’s Peter Gammons on Monday that he used steroids from 2001 to 2003 when he was with the Texas Rangers.
Rodriguez only missed 1 game during that 3-year timeframe & averaged 52 home runs per season & 132 runs batted in with a .305 batting average.
Since 2003, Rodriguez has averaged 42 home runs per season & 123 runs batted in with a .302 batting average.
So the power numbers took a slight dip for Rodriguez in the past 5 years, but Alex hasn’t had back-to-back seasons or 50 or more home runs, 130 or more runs batted in, a slugging percentage of .620 or higher & an on-base percentage of over 1.000 since 2001-2002.
Rodriguez is currently 12th on Major League Baseball’s all-time home run list & needs 11 to surpass Reggie Jackson for 11th place.
My question to you is, how much will this tarnish A-Rod’s legacy & does he deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame?
