Bears sign quarterback Brett Basanez to 2-year deal..

Get used to hearing the name “Brett Basanez”, because he could end up as the team’s back-up quarterback behind Kyle Orton to start the 2009 season.
That’s if current free-agent Rex Grossman isn’t retained for a 7th season with the Bears.
Basanez is still trying to make his mark in the NFL after enjoying a successful collegiate career at Northwestern, where he holds or ties school records for passing yards (10,580), total offense (11,576), completions (913) & touchdown passes (44).
The Arlington Heights, IL native’s only regular-season NFL game appearance to date was on December 17th, 2006 as a member of the Carolina Panthers. Basanez completed 6 of 11 passes for 56 yards & threw an interception in Carolina’s 37-3 loss to Pittsburgh.
Basanez came into that game in relief of former Panthers QB Chris Weinke, who is now out of the NFL.
