Breaking News: Landmark Church On Fire Near Chicago Loop
Written by DJ Special Blend from Chicago on February 4, 2009
CHICAGO – Holy Name Cathedral, originally built in 1875, is on fire with flames burning through the roof this morning.
As of now (6:30am) the Chicago Fire Department reports that the fire is contained, but still burning.
The two-alarm flames are reported to have been through the roof when the initial call to the fire department came just after 5:30 am. The Chi-FDP and water people are fighting the fire, and the freezing weather.
Holy Name Cathedral is the home church of the Chicago Roman Catholic Archdiocese. Besides that, it holds a lotta historic value to Chicagoans. We’ve all either past by it or worshiped there a million times. It’s been there all our lives.
Looks like they are are gonna be able to save most of the building. That can always be rebuilt. The church itself is the congregation, and there are no injuries reported thus far.
Can I get an amen? 😉
