Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson revealed to former Laker great Magic Johnson during an ABC interview earlier today that the 2009-10 season could very well be “his last” before finally retiring.
Jackson took a year off after guiding the Chicago Bulls to their 6th NBA Championship win in 8 years & vowed never to coach again.
However, Jackson had a change of heart as he took over as the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coach prior to beginning the 1999-2000 season & led the team to three consecutive NBA Championships.
Jackson’s Lakers has made the postseason in each of the last 5 seasons, with the team suffering 2 NBA Finals defeats to the Detroit Pistons & the Boston Celtics.
The Lakers currently hold the NBA’s best record at 31 and 8, so it is looking like Jackson will have yet another shot to break Red Auerbach’s record (both are tied with 9 Championship wins) in June.
