Whitney Young moves on in the 2014 Illinois High School Association boys’ state basketball tournament. The Dolphins defeated Loyola Academy 58-32 in the class 4A Super-Sectional.
The Dolphins controlled the contest from the opening tip. Their next game will be Friday night at 6:30PM in Peoria, IL. The state semi-final match up will be against Stevenson.
Jahlil Okafor racked up 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots for Whitney Young. Paul White added 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Erwin Henry contributed with 11 points.
Loyola had a poor night shooting, plus they lacked the size to defend the 6′ 11″ Okafor. The double and triple teaming allowed the Duke-bound center to pick his spots and rack up 7 assist. The Dolphins started the game with a 10-0 run. They lead at the end of the first quarter 19-3.
There is a chance that Whitney Young might win state championships in both the boys and girls basketball tournaments. The girls team beat Rolling Meadows 60-44 on March 8, 2014 to take home the girls 4A State Championship.
