Harper College: Free Tuition is a Good Thing
Written by DJ Special Blend from Chicago on April 1, 2015
Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before? Whatever the case, it’s definitely a case of better-late-than-never for Harper College in Palatine, IL. Hopefully, many other colleges will follow.
Harper College now offers the “Promise Scholarship.”
Students can attend the two-year college tuition free. Yep, no cost for tuition. There are a few stipulations, but nothing that’s too much to ask. This program is targeted toward students that may not have a “straight-A” grade point average, and may not be able to afford higher education.
Students have to maintain a “C” average and carry 15 hours per semester. They also have to work 40 hours community service.
This is expected to cost a million dollars a year. The Harper Board of Trustees put around five-mill to the side to pay for it. Educating someone who’s willing to work but can’t afford it is a good thing. I’m just saying.
