Nobody will be Happy with the Lifetime Aaliyah Movie

Written by on October 5, 2014

Peeps have extra-large glasses of hater-aid on standby. Guns are cocked and loaded. Leaders are ready to march from New York to Los Angeles to shout their judgement.

The Lifetime movie about the life of the late R&B superstar, Aaliyah premiers November 15 at 7pm Central Standard Time.

The trailer for the made for TV movie has been released. Judging from the initial reaction on Youtube, nobody will be happy with the movie.

The current conflict is about the music used in the background of the promotional trailer. “Goddess” by Iggy Azalea pumps as clips of Alexandra Shipp as Aaliyah flash across the screen. The lyrics “Bow down to a Goddess” echos over and over.

Sounds fitting because most Aaliyah fans indeed view her as a goddess, if you will. But most Aaliyah fans are screaming and hollering about the producers giving the nod to a song by Australian performer Iggy. Fans wonder why did they not use an Aaliyah song. Whatever the answer to that question, there’s one thing that’s certain.

This made for TV film has been controversial since the news of it hit the public . . . and the controversy is not going to stop.

Unfortunately, anything short of Aaliyah coming back to life will not satisfy her biggest fans. Yes that’s a huge exaggeration to say the least. But realistically speaking, the underlying tone is that Aaliyah’s fans feel slighted.

She’s considered worthy of a big screen production. With that being said, the Lifetime movie has been doomed to get mad criticism, even long before they began filming. However, Lifetime can be sure that Aaliyah fans will be tuned in on November 15 at 7pm CST. It’s true that everyone will have cases of Hater-aid on standby, but they will indeed be tuned in.
