Student Destroys Roman Statue While Taking A Selfie

Drunken Satyr leg broke by selfieWhat did we do before cell phones? One thing’s for sure. There wasn’t a such thing as a ‘selfie.’

A student in Milan, Italy tried to take a selfie as he climbed a statue that dated to the early 19th century. He made the leg fall off. This happened at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.

What the hell was he doing climbing on a statue in a museum, to take a freakin’ picture of himself? Luckily, the statue was a replica.

The statue depicts the “Drunken Satyr,” an ancient Greek sculpture of the Hellenistic era showing a human-like figure with animal features drunkenly sleeping. Fortunately, the statue is a copy located in the academy’s hallway leading to a room full of more valuable works of the most famous sculptors of the era, including Antonio Canova, Italian newspapers reported.

Okay, so thankfully it wasn’t the original. With that in mind, what the hell was he doing climbing on a statue to take a picture in the first place? I know his momma and his teacher told him not to touch anything. A child much younger than this kid would know better than to touch anything in a museum.

Can’t even blame this one on the cell phone. They should make him work it off with hard labor.
