Couple Finds Coins Worth Millions in their Backyard
Written by DJ Special Blend from Chicago on March 1, 2014
Talk about lucky! This couple found ten million dollars worth of gold coins in their backyard. Straight up!
A couple that chooses to remain anonymous, walked their dog on their property about a year ago. They came across six cans filled with 1,427 coins. They date date from 1847 to 1894. The face value of the coins check in at $27,000. However, a lot of the coins are extremely rare and will sell for way more than the face value. They are now being placed on sale by coin dealer Don Kagin of Tiburon, who appraised the coins for the couple.
What a case of ‘finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.’ What a case of ‘owning the right property at the right time.’ What a case of ‘this type of thing never happens to me.’
That couple is smart for remaining anonymous, because I would’ve gone to dig up their yard some more when they wasn’t looking. Bulldozers and heavy cranes would’ve been rolling by their window in the middle of the night. I’d be out there dressed like a sharecropper, holding a shovel in one hand, and a pack of watermelon Now and Laters in the other.
Somebody did this couple a favor over a hundred years ago. They buried their goal and told nobody else about it. Rare gold coins at that. No deterioration of the product.
I’m still waiting on my pot of gold.
