The Green Bay Packers have rewarded their Super Bowl-winning coach with a new extension, as they have locked up Mike McCarthy throughout 2015.
Just last month, McCarthy’s Packers became just the second #6 seed (2007 Giants) to win a Super Bowl, as he joins Vince Lombardi & Mike Holmgren as the only three head coaches from Green Bay to win the big one.
McCarthy has led Green Bay to the playoffs 3 times in 5 years as head coach to date, which does include a pair of NFC Championship Game appearences against the Giants & Bears.
The 47-year old native of Pittsburgh, PA issued a statement following the team’s announcement of the contract extension:
“We were very excited to bring the Lombardi Trophy back home this past season, and we look forward to the challenge of continuing to improve as a football team and adding to the championship legacy here. My family and I love being in Green Bay. It’s always going to be my home, and we are very happy to continue to be a part of this community.”
