After several months of speculation, Carmelo Anthony has finally landed on Broadway.
The New York Knicks completed a blockbuster 3-team trade on Monday evening to acquire the 4-time All-Star from the Denver Nuggets along with 5-time All-Star Chauncey Billups, plus Shelden Williams & Renaldo Balkman.
The Nuggets will receive Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, $3 million in cash plus New York’s 2014 first-round draft pick and two second-round picks as compensation for trading Anthony.
As the third team in the deal, the Minnesota Timberwolves will receive Anthony Randolph & the expiring contract of Eddy Curry, while Corey Brewer will head to Denver.
Anthony (24.5 PPG average in 45 playoff games) and Billups (17.8 PPG average in 139 playoff games) will also bring a lot of postseason experience to the Knicks to go with 6-time All Star Amar’e Stoudemire, who will look to end their 6-year playoff drought in April & win their first series in 11 years.
There will be controversy though regarding his previously worn jersey numbers of #15 & #22, (Anthony wore #22 at Oak Hill Academy) as they are both retired by the Knicks for Earl Monroe & Dave Debusschere, respectively.
