Derrick Rose showed on Thursday evening why he’s a serious candidate to win league MVP, as he poured in a career-high 42 points to help the Chicago Bulls beat the San Antonio Spurs 109-99 from the United Center.
Rose scored 13 points in the 4th quarter to prevent San Antonio from making a late run, and left coaches from both teams in awe.
He certainly has the respect from 4-time NBA championship winning head coach Greg Popovich:
“What’s great about him is that he seems to love the pressure. He loves putting the team on his back so to speak.”
Rose also learned on Thursday evening before the game that he will participate in Saturday’s Skills Challenge, which he won as a rookie during the 2008-09 season.
With Thursday’s win, Chicago won their 38th game & is just 3 wins shy of tying their entire win total (41) from last season.
The Bulls are only just 1 game off in the loss column from their record (39-15) during their last championship-winning season in 1997-98, which could mean great things in store with the anticipated return of Joakim Noah next week.
