The longest-tenured head coach in the NFL will not be back for a 17th season in Tennessee, as the Titans parted ways with 52-year old Jeff Fisher on Thursday.
Fisher led the Titans to 3 playoff appearences & 6 winning seasons in his 16 years with the team, which included a loss in Super Bowl XXXIV to the St. Louis Rams.
He had constant run-ins with former quarterback Vince Young, as the twosome had an altercation in Tennessee’s locker room following their 19-16 loss to Washington in Week 11.
After the incident with Young, the Titans would go on to lose 5 of their next 6 games to end the season.
Fisher also took a gamble on Randy Moss, who finished with just 6 catches for 80 yards in 8 games for Tennessee with no touchdowns.
He was ranked 3rd on the active head coaching list with 147 wins, which trails only New England’s Bill Belichick (176) & Washington’s Mike Shanahan (160).
