In another close game that gave us flashbacks of the 2010 season opener, the Chicago Bears used a 4th quarter comeback to beat the Detroit Lions 24-20 on Sunday afternoon from Ford Field.
Despite being sacked 4 times in back-to-back weeks, Jay Cutler completed 21 of 26 passes for 234 yards & 1 touchdown, as his quarterback rating went over 100 for the 2nd straight game.
His 1 touchdown pass turned out to be the game-winner, as he hit Brandon Manumaleuna for a 7-yard score with 8:39 left in the 4th quarter.
Drew Stanton delivered an inspired effort despite being Detroit’s 3rd string quarterback, as he completed 16 of 24 passes for 178 yards & threw for a touchdown, which was a 46-yard strike to Calvin Johnson right before halftime.
For the first time all season, both Matt Forte & Chester Taylor rushed for touchdowns in the same game, as it helped the Bears maintain 1st place in the NFC North.
Earl Bennett followed his first multi-touchdown outing with a career-day, as he reached season-highs in both receptions (7) and receiving yards (104).
Chicago will host New England in an interconference showdown on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field, as they will look to beat the Patriots for just the 2nd time since their Super Bowl XX win.
Sunday will be Tom Brady’s first career game at Soldier Field, as he beat the Bears 33-30 on November 10th, 2002 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL.
