LeBron James scored 24 of his game-high 38 points in a 3rd quarter clinic, as the Miami Heat routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-90 in James’ highly-anticipated return to the state of Ohio.
James hit 15 field goals in just 30 minutes of action, as he didn’t commit a single turnover for the first time all season.
He also found some time to engage in trash-talk with Cleveland’s bench & even had some words with former teammate Daniel Gibson, who didn’t appreciate James’ antics.
“I think people, from the outside looking in, might say we were laughing and joking with him, but if you could hear the things that were said, you would know that wasn’t the case,” Gibson said. “There was nothing friendly about the conversation we had.”
Some of the shirts directed at the 6-time All-Star read “The Lyin King”, “Play Like It’s Game Five”, and “Quitness” among others.
Despite the jawing with his former team, James had nothing but good things to say about the Cavalier team that he spent 7 seasons with prior to joining Miami:
“So many things went through my mind. I have nothing bad to say about these fans at all. We grew from the year before I got here, a 17-win season to the last two years I was here, we had the best team in the league in the regular season. I understand their frustration. I was frustrated also because we didn’t accomplish what we wanted to. I wish this organization and these fans, who are great, the best.”
The two teams will play again on December 15th in Miami, as James will once again return to Quicken Loans Arena on March 29th, 2010.
