Redskins, McNabb agree on 5-year extension..

2 weeks ago, he was involved in a controversial benching by head coach Mike Shanahan. Today, he’s just become one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL.

Donovan McNabb agreed to a 5-year deal on Monday worth up to $78 million to stay with the Washington Redskins through 2015, which came hours before McNabb was scheduled to face his former Philadelphia Eagles team on Monday night.

$40 million will be guaranteed, as he will now most likely finish out his career in Washington until he reaches 39.

Despite the crazy turmoil caused by McNabb’s surprise benching, GM Bruce Allen stands behind his franchise quarterback:

“Once the regular season started, we really were aiming toward the bye week, and it came together. I think coach and myself said that Donovan’s going to be here from the beginning and Donovan has been real clear in his intent of being a Redskin. So I think it just puts an exclamation point on it.”

McNabb has struggled this season, as he’s completed just 57.4% of his passes for 1,971 yards, 7 touchdowns & 8 interceptions in 8 games. (Career-low rating of 76.0).
