For the first time since taking over ownership of the team in 1989, Jerry Jones has decided to make a in-season coaching change.
Wade Phillips was relieved of his head coaching duties on Monday following Dallas’ embarassing 45-7 loss to Green Bay, which drops them to 1-7 on the season.
Jason Garrett will now take over as head coach, and he has promised that there will be changes starting with Sunday’s game against the red-hot Giants:
“There’ll be some changes that I think will be tangible that people in our organization will notice right from the start. I think over time those changes will be implemented into our football team. They won’t be drastic changes. I just think the personality of the leader will come through a little bit.”
Phillips went 34-22 with the Cowboys, which included two NFC East titles. However, he was unable to get his team past the Divisional Round as he sports a 1-2 playoff record.
