Mattie T’s Game 2 Recap of the 2010 World Series

The Giants put a scoring opportunity together in the 2nd inning, as Cody Ross hit a 1-out double to left off Rangers starter C.J. Wilson.
Aubrey Huff then grounded out to Ian Kinsler at 2nd base, as it did advance Ross to 3rd base on the play.
That left it up to Game 1 hero Juan Uribe, who flied out to Josh Hamilton in centerfield to end the scoring chance.
Texas then had a chance to score in the 3rd, as Mitch Moreland hit a 1-out single to shallow right off San Francisco starter Matt Cain.
Wilson laid down a sac bunt, as it advanced Moreland to 2nd base with 2 outs for Elvis Andrus.
Andrus flied out to Andres Torres in shallow center to end the inning.
The Rangers finally took the lead in the 4th, as Kinsler nearly left the yard with a deep ball to straightaway center that hit the top of the outfield padding.
It stayed in play, as Kinsler had to settle for a lead-off double.
Daniel Murphy then lined out to Edgar Renteria at shortstop, as Kinsler had to stay put at 2nd.
That brought up Matt Treanor, who also grounded out to Renteria.
Moreland then drew an intentional walk, which put runners on 1st & 2nd with 2 outs for Wilson.
Wilson grounded out to Huff at 1st base to end the scoring threat.
Edgar Renteria picked a grand time to deliver his 1st run scoring hit of the postseason, as he launched a 1-out solo homer off Wilson in the 5th to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead.
Texas was at it again in the 6th, as Michael Young & Josh Hamilton hit back-to-back 1-out singles off Cain.
Young & Hamilton then both advanced 90 feet on a Cain wild pitch during Cruz’s at-bat, who popped out to Huff in foul territory at first base.
That left it up to Kinsler, who flied out to Ross in shallow right field to end the scoring chance.
San Francisco added a run in the 7th, as Ross drew a lead-off walk from Wilson.
Huff then grounded out to Moreland at 1st base, as that advanced Ross into scoring position.
Uribe hit an RBI single to shallow right center, as that scored Ross from 2nd & made it a 2-0 game.
Uribe was able to advance to 2nd on the play, which set up an RBI chance for Renteria.
Renteria struck out swinging, which left it up to Cain.
Cain also struck out swinging to end the inning.
The Rangers tried to score in the top of the 8th, as Andrus drew a 1-out walk from Cain.
Andrus then stole 2nd base during Young’s at-bat, as he flied out to Schierholtz in shallow right.
That left it up to Hamilton, who flied out to Torres in centerfield against Giants reliever Javier Lopez.
The Giants exploded to put the game away in the bottom of the 8th inning, as Buster Posey got it started with a 2-out single against Rangers reliever Darren O’Day.
Schierholtz & Ross then drew back-to-back walks from Darren Oliver, which loaded the bases for Huff.
Huff forced in a run without swinging the bat, as his bases-loaded walk scored Posey from 3rd & made it a 3-0 game.
Uribe also walked, this time against Mark Lowe to force in Schierholz from third & make it a 4-0 Giants lead.
Renteria continued his big evening with a 2-run single to shallow left, as both Ross & Huff scored to make it 6-0 San Francisco.
Aaron Rowand then made a pinch-hit appearence & drove in a 2-run triple to deep right center, as it scored both Uribe & Renteria to make it a 8-0 game.
Torres hit an RBI double to shallow left, as Rowand scored to make it 9-0.
The inning finally ended with Freddy Sanchez’s strikeout.
Texas had one final chance to score in the 9th, as Murphy drew a 2-out walk from San Francisco reliever Guillermo Mota.
Murphy then took 2nd base during Jeff Francouer’s at bat, who fouled out to Schierholtz in right to end the game.
Matt Cain (2-0) continues his postseason dominance for San Francisco with 7 2/3 scoreless innings, as he gave up just 4 hits while walking two & striking out two.
Cain has yet to allow an earned run in 21 1/3 innings of work so far in the 2010 playoffs.
C.J. Wilson (1-2) loses his 2nd straight playoff start for Texas despite allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits in his 6 innings of work, as he walked two & struck out four.
Javier Lopez pitched 1/3rd of an inning from the Giants bullpen to earn his 6th hold of the postseason.
Edgar Renteria earns top honors for Game 2 after going 2-for-4 at the plate with a solo homer & a 2-run double.
Game 3 of the 2010 World Series will shift to Rangers Stadium in Arlington, TX at 5:57 PM CST on Saturday, as Jonathan Sanchez (0-1, 2.93 ERA in postseason) goes up against Colby Lewis (2-0, 1.45 ERA in postseason).
Sanchez won in his only previous appearence against Texas on June 29th, 2006 as he got Mark Texieira to hit into a double-play during the 8th inning to get San Francisco out of a jam during their 2-1 victory.
Lewis pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief in his only previous appearence against the Giants on June 9th, 2007 during Texas’ 6-0 win.
