Mattie T’s Game 1 Recap of the 2010 World Series

The Rangers got an immediate rally started in the top of the 1st inning, as Elvis Andrus started the 2010 World Series off with a lead-off single.
Michael Young then drew a walk, as it put runners on first & second for Josh Hamilton. Hamilton hit a grounder to Aubrey Huff at first base, but it advanced Andrus & Young into scoring position.
Vladimir Guerrero then provided the first RBI of this year’s Fall Classic, as he hit a ball that caromed off Tim Lincecum’s leg & onto 2nd base.
Andrus scored on the play, which gave Texas a 1-0 lead.
Nelson Cruz then reached safely, as Lincecum failed to throw to third in able to nail Young.
Ian Kinsler swung at Lincecum’s first pitch & grounded to third, as Juan Uribe stepped on the third base bag before firing over to Huff in time at first base to end the inning.
The Giants tried to tie it up in their half of the first, as Freddy Sanchez hit a one-out double to right against Rangers starter Cliff Lee.
Buster Posey then flied out to Kinsler in shallow right, as he fired to Andrus in time at second to double-up Sanchez & end the scoring chance.
Texas then extended their lead in the second, as Bengie Molina hit a lead-off single against San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum.
2 batters later, Cliff Lee hit a double to deep left center, as it put runners on second & third for Andrus.
Andrus hit a sac fly to Andres Torres in centerfield, as it scored Molina from third base & made it a 2-0 Ranger lead.
Lee also advanced to third on the play, which set Young up with an RBI chance.
Young flied out to Torres to end the inning.
San Francisco had yet another chance to score in the 2nd, as Huff hit a two-out double off Lee.
Uribe then struck out swinging to end the scoring chance.
The Giants rallied to tie it in the third, as Edgar Renteria reached safely on a fielding error by Young at 3rd base.
Torres was then hit by a pitch, which put runners on first & second with nobody out for Sanchez.
Sanchez hit an RBI double to shallow left, as it scored Renteria from second & made it a 2-1 game.
Posey then hit an RBI single to shallow left center, as that scored Torres from second to tie it up 2-2.
Pat Burrell & Cody Ross then both struck out looking to end the inning.
The Rangers tried to re-take the lead in the fourth, as Mitch Moreland hit a 2-out double off Lincecum.
Lee then grounded out to Renteria at shortstop to end the scoring chance.
San Francisco proceeded to break the game wide open in the 6th, as Torres got it going with a one-out double off Lee.
Sanchez then provided his 3rd double of the game, which scored Torres from 2nd & gave the Giants a 3-2 lead.
After Posey struck out swinging, Burrell drew a walk to put runners on first & second with 2 outs for Ross.
Ross continued his hot postseason by hitting an RBI single to shallow center, as it scored Sanchez from 2nd base & made it a 4-2 game.
Huff then hit an RBI single to shallow center, as Burrell scored to make it a 5-2 San Francisco lead.
That ended Lee’s evening, as Rangers manager Ron Washington went with reliever Darren O’ Day from his bullpen.
Uribe greeted O’Day with a 3-run homer (2nd of postseason) to deep left, as that gave the Giants a 8-2 lead.
Renteria was then hit by a pitch, while Lincecum reached on Andrus’ fielding error at shortstop.
That set up an RBI chance for Torres, who struck out swinging to end the inning.
Texas then rallied in the 7th, as Kinsler drew a 2-out walk from Lincecum.
Molina followed with an RBI double to left, as it scored Kinsler from first base & made it a 8-3 game.
Moreland then reached on an infield single on a ball that struck Lincecum in the rear end, as it put runners on first & second for pinch-hitter Daniel Murphy.
Murphy hit an RBI single to right, as Molina scored from 2nd & made it a 8-4 game.
Andrus then struck out against Giants reliever Santiago Casilla to end the inning.
The Giants extended their lead in the 8th, as Renteria hit a single to right.
It wound up being a triple after the ball got past Guerrero, as he was charged with a two-base error.
That set up a run-scoring chance for Travis Ishikawa, who cashed in with an RBI double, as it scored Renteria from 3rd & made it a 9-4 game.
After Torres fouled out to third, Sanchez continued his amazing night with an RBI double to score Ishikawa, as he took 2nd base on Guerrero’s 2nd error of the inning to make it 10-4 Giants.
Posey then grounded out to Andrus at shortstop, which left it up to pinch-hitter Noah Schierholtz.
Michael Kirkman came in from the Rangers bullpen & gave up an RBI single to Schierholtz, as it scored Sanchez from 2nd to make it a 11-4 San Francisco lead.
Texas put together one final rally in the 9th inning, as pinch-hitter Julio Borbon got it started with an RBI single against San Francisco reliever Ramon Ramirez.
Borbon took second on Ishikawa’s fielding error, as Andrus drew a walk to put runners on 1st & 2nd with nobody out for Young.
Young lined out to Huff in shallow right, which brought up Hamilton.
Both Borbon & Andrus advanced up 90 feet on Jeremy Affeldt’s wild pitch during Hamilton’s at-bat, as he drew a walk to load the bases for Guerrero.
Guerrero then hit a sac fly to Huff in right, as Borbon scored to make it a 11-5 game.
Cruz followed that up with a 2-run double to right center, as Andrus & Hamilton scored to make it 11-7.
Kinsler popped up to Huff in shallow right to end the game & give the Giants a 1-0 series lead.
Tim Lincecum (1-0) gets the win for San Francisco after pitching 5 2/3 innings & allowed 4 runs on 8 hits while walking two & striking out three.
Cliff Lee (0-1) takes the loss for Texas after allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 8 hits while walking one & striking out seven.
Santiago Casilla earns the hold (1st of World Series) after pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Freddy Sanchez is the star of Game 1, as the Giants’ 2nd baseman went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI’s, while connecting for 3 doubles.
Game 2 of the 2010 World Series will be played on Thursday evening at 6:57 PM cst at AT&T Park, as C.J. Wilson (1-1, 3.93 ERA in postseason) will face off against Matt Cain (1-0, 0.00 ERA in postseason).
Wilson (native of Newport Beach, CA) is just 8-16 in 17 career road starts compared to a 19-12 mark at home.
Cain finished with a no-decision in his only career start against Texas on June 20th, 2009.
In that game, Cain pitched 8 innings & allowed just 1 run on 3 hits while walking three & striking out eight during San Francisco’s 2-1 win in 11 innings.
The only run that was allowed by Cain was a 6th inning solo homer to Ian Kinsler.
