In a move that needed to be made with starting center Kendrick Perkins out until next January (knee surgery), the Boston Celtics signed 15-time All-Star & 4-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal to a 2-year deal on Wednesday.
O’Neal joins Boston as the NBA’s 5th all-time leading scorer with 28,255 career points & will be the 5th key Celtic player over 30 years or older, which includes Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce & newcomer Jermaine O’Neal.
He will see a pair of his old teammates as part of his Celtic debut, as he’ll face LeBron James, Dwyane Wade as well as Chris Bosh on October 26th as Boston will host Miami on Opening Night.
The 38-year old veteran averaged career lows of 12.0 points & 6.7 rebounds in 53 games last season for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
