New York Yankees’ 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez joined some elite company on Wednesday afternoon, as he became just the 7th player in MLB history to hit his 600th career homer during a 5-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Rodriguez got a standing ovation from the Yankee Stadium crowd, as a security guard caught the historic home run ball.
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston was impressed by Rodriguez’s feat, considering that he was in attendance for Willie Mays’ 600th career homer in 1969.
“I don’t think too many guys can say they saw a 600th homer hit by two different guys. “
He is the fourth different player this decade to reach the 600 homer mark, as he joins Barry Bonds (762), Ken Griffey Jr. (630) & Sammy Sosa (609.)
