The New York Yankees have improved their chances of repeating as World Series champions, as they acquired 5-time All-Star 1st baseman/outfielder Lance Berkman from the Houston Astros on Friday.
The move continues the Astros’ fire sale, as they also dealt ace pitcher Roy Oswalt to the Philadephia Phillies on Thursday in exchange for J.A. Happ and two minor-leaguers.
The Yankees will get one of the best sluggers in baseball, as Berkman’s 136 RBI’s in 2006 are the most ever by a switch-hitters.
He also rejected a proposed deal to the Chicago White Sox before agreeing to come to New York.
