Blue Jays/Padres game interrupted by earthquake…

The crowd in attendance watching the Toronto Blue Jays take on the San Diego Padres on Monday evening at PETCO Park got a scare, as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake rocked the ballpark.

It happened in the bottom of the 8th inning after Padres’ 2nd baseman & leadoff hitter David Eckstein grounded out to 2nd base against Blue Jays reliever Scott Downs.

Chase Headley then stepped into the batter’s box as the rumbling started to occur, which shifted some TV’s in the press box & moved the right-field foul pole.

Toronto starting pitcher & winner Shawn Marcum seemed to enjoy it all.

“First earthquake. That was pretty fun. I didn’t feel it until they said something on TV. The TVs were moving a little bit and I started floating back and forth a little bit. That’s always fun.”

As for the game, Aaron Hill & John Buck drove in three runs apiece to lift Toronto to a 6-3 win over San Diego.
