For the first time in 28 years, the Minnesota Twins played their home opener outdoors during their 5-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Monday afternoon in their outstanding new Target Field ballpark.
The Twins donned throwback jerseys from 1961 & also unveiled a statute outside the ballpark that is dedicated to the late hall-of-famer Kirby Puckett.
As for the game itself, Jason Kubel put his name into the record books with launching the first home run ever at Target Field, a solo homer in the 7th inning off Red Sox reliever Scott Atchison to give Minnesota a 4-2 lead.
Carl Pavano pitched 6 six innings & allowed just 1 run on 4 hits while improving to 2-0 on the young season with a 1.38 ERA.
Jon Rauch continued his perfect week as the Twins’ new closer, as he notched his 5th save in his 5th opportunity.
